Oovoo with the girls (:

This weekend I have a date with the mall and my UO giftcards.

Three more days.

In a relationship with facebook

A new study conducted by the popular social networking site facebook reports that their website is home to over 800 million active users. I, being one of those 800 million users, regrettably admit that about 2 hours of my day are dedicated to my self-updating newsfeeds and to my friend’s timelines.

Finally around the second hour of facebook stalking I realize that there is a pile of homework laying on my desk. The few hours that I spent on facebook led to a night of regret as I grudgingly start my homework.

Sure, facebook allows for its users to communicate efficiently with their peers, but it’s ability to expose juicy gossip and interesting stories leaves teenagers hooked to their computer screens. In our current technological world many have become addicted to the idea of communicating with their friends through updated statuses and pictures.

“Sometimes I don’t need to bring up a conversations with my friends about their lives because I could just see what they’re doing from their status updates,” facebook user and junior Moani Antone said.

In today’s adolescent culture it has become normal to trade in real-life relationships for virtual ones. However, more time on facebook ultimately means less time for real interactions that can help develop social skills in the real world.

A study done by Texas Christian University found that students constantly immersed in social media sites are more likely to show early signs of depression and anxiety.

Such negative affects are directly caused by the users’ ability to alter the way that they think and feel. Popular features such as facebook messaging give users the opportunity to delay certain conflicts and confrontations. Don’t want to face the drama? Just ignore the message.  But the problem is still going to be there tomorrow. Facebook wastes precious time that could be used to find a solution.

Moreover, facebook promotes isolation from the rest of society. Many teens believe that facebook can actually improve communication with friends. However, it is common to see students trade in valuable time that could be spent studying or bettering their relationships for the internet. Computers have yet to find a way to teach teens how to be selfless, patient, and thankful for the people around them.

So until facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg finds a way to teach us social ethics, I will cease to continue my excessive use of the website. Facebook rehab starts today, anybody care to join?

Good bonding time with the guys!

It is such a great refresher every time we hang. We’re just so silly together. Just like old times. (:

Wheee, dodgeball inferno. Got to cheer on and see my favorite teachers win.

DEAR CHRISTIANS: PLEASE WATCH THIS. Are you really saved? Are you going to hell? Jesus, you ARE beautiful.

Well.. I feel like I’m going to hell after watching that.

I needed this. You need this. Watch this now.

WATCH THIS, CHRISTIANS. ALL CHRISTIANS. WATCH.

“You can’t be in love with God and be in love with the world.” Let go of your worldliness.

Conviction.
